Muséum d'Histoire naturelle
The Museum of Natural History of Bordeaux is one of the first of its kind in France. Founded in 1791, the museum has been housed in a charming private mansion (the Hôtel Lisleferme, constructed by R.F. Bonfin ), nearby the Jardin Public, since 1862.
Currently closed for refurbishment, it will reopen in 2013. Thanks to an innovating museographic project, the Museum of Natural History will reconcile pleasure and comfort of the public with conservation of collections. A new course, underlining the patrimonial value of collections as well as testifying the harbour history of the city and the richness of the back country, will contribute to the information of the citizen facing new key issues of the environment. Meeting-conferences between the scientific committee and the public will be organized in order to follow the work progressing, and also exhibitions outside and animations in the schools “Museum at home”.
